NYT: Voices from the polls

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 12:53:27 PM PDT

Want to know what real Americans like you think? The New York Times has its pulse on the mood of Americans today as they go to the polls. And these are REAL Americans who live in the REAL America that exists out there...somewhere. And all one can say is: turnout looks good for the Republican Party. Yeah!

If they don't love us, could they at least fear us?

Fri Sep 07, 2007 at 11:42:22 AM PDT

Dear Democrats.

I wish you were more afraid of your own base of activist voters than you were Republican cowards. You really should be. They may call you haters of the troops and all things American, but we can call you things too: spineless, pathetic, feckless, clueless, unprincipled, wishy washy wimps who, while maybe not actively hating America, prefer to care more about protecting their political hides than protecting the constitutional bedrock of this country.

How come when we say mean things, it doesn't count but when some whacked-out Republican chickenhawk says you hate America, you all collectively turn to jelly?

Top Story: Homosexuality rampant in GOP!

Tue Aug 28, 2007 at 07:44:00 AM PDT

The GOP has a real problem. It's becoming quite apparent that just about every Republican male in the US government today is actually gay, and for a party that is so intolerant of homosexuality in general the question becomes, what do they do?

For Gore, an opportunity to change politics.

Sat Jun 02, 2007 at 01:41:19 PM PDT

Okay, so I've read Al Gore's book. It's impossible to sum up in a few sentences, but I'll try: Television media, with its top down structure and one-way form of communication has screwed up our democracy. Citizens have essentially become passive consumers of political propaganda/advertising and pointless celebrity gossip and are thus so distracted and misinformed that they are unable to make the kind of reasoned judgments necessary for democracy to function. Hope lies in technologies like the internet which allow people to communicate and exchange ideas encouraging a more active, engaged citizenry.

And I've been hearing what Al's been saying in the media when posed every 30 seconds with "the question." In some of his responses, as the other night on KO, he seems to be saying that, for the very reasons he outlines in his book, he doesn't feel he would make the best candidate.

What kind of country?

I don't post on blogs very much, but this last week really has me pissed off. So here goes...

A suggestion for the Kerry campaign

Sat Sep 04, 2004 at 01:46:33 PM PDT

Kerry has suggested that he and Bush have regular debates. The Bush people have predictably declined the invitation. Why doesn't Kerry name a time and place, preferably not on Larry King, and challenge Bush. I'm not talking about a polite invitation, but a challenge. Suggest he's a coward if he doesn't show. Then when Bush doesn't show, Kerry can use the occasion as an opportunity to do what he did last Thursday. It creates some drama. That's what our sensationalistic news media likes - real life drama. It raises a question for those idiot pundits to discuss: Will Bush show up? Is he really afraid to debate Kerry one on one on the issues? It'll make Kerry look confident, unafraid, and it'll make Bush look like what he is: a pathetic wimp. And it's probably cheaper to do than a TV ad.
